Borderline Chaos: India-Pakistan Conflict Escalates Over Kashmir

India’s recent military operations in Pakistan-administered Kashmir and Punjab have intensified fears of a wider regional war. The fresh conflict erupted Wednesday with a swift Indian offensive.

The strikes killed dozens, including civilians, with both sides blaming each other for the escalation. Pakistan’s military reported 31 deaths, while India claimed 16 of its citizens were killed by retaliatory shelling.

New Delhi’s attacks were a reaction to a deadly shooting in April that left 26 Indian tourists dead in Kashmir. While India claims Pakistani involvement, Islamabad denies any responsibility.

Pakistan accused India of launching drones into its territory and said several had been downed. India responded by alleging that Pakistani forces targeted Indian bases with drone and missile strikes.

“Operation Sindoor” was the code name for India’s rapid attack. Indian officials stated the mission targeted terror cells without causing civilian harm, emphasizing a limited and focused strike.

Indian authorities argue that they were trying to end hostilities swiftly, but Pakistan’s reaction may provoke a deeper crisis. The Indian ambassador suggested further retaliation might follow.

Pakistan disputes India’s claim of precision, alleging the strikes hit civilian zones and religious institutions. Analysts fear the exchange marks a new phase of tension unseen since the 1971 war.
