Pakistan Calls for Calm as Ceasefire with India Faces Early Strain
Pakistan’s foreign ministry announced late Saturday that the country remains firmly committed to the ceasefire agreement with India, even as both sides exchanged accusations of violating the truce. The statement sought to reinforce Pakistan’s image as a responsible party interested in preserving regional peace.
According to the ministry, Indian forces were responsible for certain violations of the ceasefire in undisclosed locations. However, instead of escalating the matter, Pakistan’s military reportedly responded with restraint and discipline, portraying itself as a stabilizing force amid renewed tensions.
The statement went on to stress that any disagreements regarding the ceasefire’s implementation should be addressed through appropriate diplomatic channels. Islamabad urged both militaries, especially personnel in the field, to act with caution and avoid any provocative behavior that could derail progress.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also took to the airwaves late Saturday to commend the armed forces. He declared that Pakistan’s military had “made history” through its handling of the situation. His remarks highlighted military valor while avoiding any direct mention of Indian allegations or violence in Kashmir.
The prime minister’s speech steered clear of controversies, such as recent explosions or the accusations made by India’s foreign secretary. Instead, Sharif focused on building national unity and praised the professionalism and courage of the country’s military leadership and forces.
Sharif expressed appreciation to US President Donald Trump for his mediation role in the ceasefire. He extended further thanks to leaders from China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, Qatar, and the United Kingdom for their support in brokering the agreement and maintaining diplomatic balance.
In his concluding remarks, Sharif stated that the military had earned the “most magnificent honor and pride” for the nation. He credited the armed forces with defending Pakistan’s dignity and sovereignty, signaling confidence in the country’s military and diplomatic efforts moving forward.
