UK Authorities Uncover Suspected Terror Plot, Five Men Arrested Across Multiple Cities
British counter-terrorism police have arrested five men during a nationwide operation in response to a suspected plan to carry out a terrorist act. Among the suspects, four are confirmed Iranian nationals. The arrests took place on Saturday at various locations across England, following an investigation into a potential attack targeting a specific site, which authorities have not yet identified publicly.
The suspects were apprehended during coordinated raids in areas including Swindon, west London, Stockport, Rochdale, and Manchester. Their ages range from 29 to 46, although the age and nationality of one individual remain unconfirmed. Four of the men were detained under the UK’s Terrorism Act, while the fifth was arrested under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act as investigations into his background continue.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, described the investigation as dynamic and still in its early phases. He confirmed that law enforcement is in direct contact with representatives at the location potentially targeted, ensuring they are updated regularly as new details emerge. However, authorities have chosen not to disclose the specific site under threat at this stage.
Investigators are actively pursuing several leads to determine the suspects’ potential motivations and whether others may be involved. They are also assessing if any ongoing threat to the public exists in connection with the suspected plot. The men remain in custody while officers continue to gather evidence and evaluate the broader implications of the case.
Addressing public concern, Commander Murphy urged citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activity to authorities. He reassured the public that every precaution is being taken and that the case is being handled with the highest priority to ensure public safety across all regions affected.
